About MyCom
MyCom is a youth movement that connects Greater Cleveland's youth in grades K-12 to positive experiences and caring adults they need to reach their full potential. It accomplishes this by providing out-of-school time enrichment activities and academic support, by helping young people through school and social transitions (i.e., home to kindergarten, elementary school to middle school, etc.), and by linking them to appropriate resources and opportunities in their own neighborhoods. Follow the MyCom Network link on the left to learn more about the county-wide program.
How many MyCom neighborhoods are there?
There are eight MyCom neighborhoods. Six are in City of Cleveland: Mount Pleasant, Broadway/Slavic Village, Cuddell/West. Blvd, St. Clair-Superior, Central and West Park. Two are outside the city: Shaker Heights and Parma.
What agencies make up this network at the county-wide level?
Managed by Cuyahoga County's Family and Children First Council, MyCom brings together an
entire network of youth-focused organizations. Six lead agencies are responsible for providing MyCom
support to the designated neighborhoods:
• Neighborhood Leadership Institute (connecting youth with services in their neighborhoods)
• Cleveland Public Library (assisting with school transitions)
• Partnership for a Safer Cleveland (giving young people a voice in the planning process)
• Starting Point (making available out-of-school time activities)
• Voices for Ohio's Children (securing public funding)
Who are the funding partners?
MyCom receives generous support from public and private partners. Funders include the Cleveland
Foundation, the City of Cleveland, Cuyahoga County, Saint Luke's Foundation, and the Sisters of
Charity Foundation of Cleveland.
What is MyCom South Shaker?
MyCom South Shaker is the local arm of the county-wide initiative. For the purposes of this initiative, South Shaker is defined as the area south of Van Aken Boulevard and includes the neighborhoods of Lomond, Ludlow, Moreland and Sussex.
Strategic planning and oversight have been led by the South Shaker Neighborhood Council which consists of youth and adult residents, and an array of youth serving organizations throughout the city. The Shaker Heights Youth Center has served as the neighborhood lead agency and liaison between the Neighborhood Council and the funders and partners at the county-wide level. The MyCom South Shaker programming being offered is based on the input of the Neighborhood Council and the specific needs of the South Shaker community.
As if the Fall of 2009, MyCom South Shaker initiatives, all of which of focus on out of school time programming, are being implemented throughout the city.
